Get to Know the TS Academy Coaches

"I am currently in Alabama and take 2-3 hour commutes just to train with Thomas as I know that there is no other coach with quality similar to TSBadminton. Each lesson is a masterclass providing insightful tips, guaranteed to take your game to the next level."

If you are looking for the highest professional quality badminton training, look no further because TSBadminton is where it is. Each lesson is a masterclass providing insightful tips, guaranteed to take your game to the next level. Thomas is a renowned official in the field of badminton and a true motivational coach who can help bring out your “A-game” regardless of what skill level you are. I am currently in Alabama and take 2-3 hour commutes just to train with Thomas as I know that there is no other coach with quality similar to TSBadminton. Thomas never ceases to provide engaging classes, which helps train fundamentals and pushes the player to be the best they can be. I have also been a part of his badminton clinics with his assistant coaches and all of the players who have participated were impressed with the educational value. I am very happy to be a part of the TSBadminton community and could not have enough recommendations for his classes.

"Coach Thomas has a deep understanding of how to teach young badminton players, he is able to make each lesson engaging for the student whilst constantly motivating them to work harder."

While it is a given that not everyone has the same opinions, goals and ideals, one cannot deny that Thomas Shek is truly an outstanding coach. In the seven months my son (Joseph L.) has trained with him, his technique and ability has improved tremendously. Coach Thomas has a deep understanding of how to teach young badminton players, he is able to make each lesson engaging for the student whilst constantly motivating them to work harder. He is also very prepared for each lesson and takes notes on the student’s performance during and after the lesson. Using these notes, he can plan the next lesson accordingly. Because of the preparation that goes into each lesson, no moment spent training with him is a moment wasted.

“When you want to attend a well-organized, well-run tournament, if Thomas Shek’s involved, go with the knowledge that it will be a first-class event.”

I first met Thomas at an umpire’s training course he was the presenting. It was a properly-organised and well-attended event. The next time we met was at a Miami tournament where we both served as umpires. We developed a good working relationship; Thomas, in addition, was responsible for handling some of the duties in running the tournament.  Later, he invited me to the USA Badminton Adult National Championships in West Palm Beach where he was the tournament director. It’s a pleasure to attend a tournament and observe everything running like clockwork. Thomas certainly knew what he was doing. And then Thomas asked me if I wanted to come up to Orlando as an umpire at a juniors tournament. Sure, why not? It’s Thomas! It must be a good tournament. So said, so done. When you want to attend a well-organized, well-run tournament, if Thomas Shek’s involved, go with the knowledge that it will be a first-class event.

"As a retired dance instructor of 40 years, I was a great admirer of his talent and teaching ability. He was always eager to learn new perspectives.

Thomas’s professional demeanor, ability to make quick and fair decisions, scheduling expertise, problem solving and warm personality, created an atmosphere of comfort and familiarity."

Thomas Shek is a multi-talented professional. My husband and I were fortunate enough to make his acquaintance through a local badminton center, here in Orlando. My husband is a coach where Thomas was the Manager of the center at that time. Thomas’s professional demeanor, ability to make quick and fair decisions, scheduling expertise, problem solving and warm personality, created an atmosphere of comfort and familiarity. These qualities promoted the success of the center. Thomas also taught badminton during his tenure at the center. As a retired dance instructor of 40 years, I was a great admirer of his talent and teaching ability. Thomas and I had many discussions and shared many teaching strategies and ideas. He was always eager to learn new perspectives. Teaching sports and dance are very similar, yet not like teaching academics. Philosophical differences, as well as unique approaches were of interest to both Thomas and me. We have also seen Thomas facilitate and referee national level tournaments during his tenure at the center. His events have always been greatly successful.  During his time in the Orlando facility, we also became personal friends. Thomas has a kind and gentle spirit and is ethical and moral. His dedication and devotion to his family and friends is most important to him and he is a valuable friend to us. We consider ourselves fortunate to know Thomas both in a professional and in a personal manner.
